The Montreal Canadiens revealed the specs of their new scoreboard this morning and it sounds like an absolute monster.

Now that the kids are back in schools, it will soon be time for hockey players to get back in the ice and just like schools get fixed during the Summer to look their best for the start of the year, the Bell Centre was fixed up as well.

Elliotte Friedman came back from filming in Europe with Sportsnet this Summer saying in his 32 Thoughts Podcast that he had seen Juraj Slafkovsky's training and that he looked like an absolute monster. He won't be the only monster in the Bell Centre though, there will be another one above centre ice.

Gone is the old scoreboard which was 29'x 16' on all four sides and it has been replaced by a massive structure which measures 41'x 21'along the side of the ice and 32' x 21 ' at both ends. Nearly 2,900 square feet of state of the art video beauty. It will also include angled screen at the bottom of the long sides to allow those sitting in the lower bowl to have a better view.

The new scoreboard with razor sharp images features 2.5 times the resolution of its ancestor and will make its debut this weekend when the Montreal Canadiens prospects will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs' youngsters.

The new screens weights 30 tons, the equivalent of 160,000 hockey pucks as the Canadiens' press release puts it. President of Groupe CH Sports and Entertainment France Margaret Belanger is quoted as saying:

With this new central scoreboard, we look forward to officially unveiling what we anticipate being a breathtaking new addition to the game experience at the Bell Centre. With a streamlined design that allows for a host of new configuration of videos, replays, statistics and graphics, the board will provide a variety of ways to engage fans in a manner that enhance their viewing of the action.

Anyone else looking forward to the Bell Centre opening its doors to the public this weekend for the "Prospect Showdown"? It promises to be an action packed weekend in Montreal.
