A Montreal Canadiens forward is continuing to create chatter as a potential trade candidate to watch.
This is because Canadiens forward Kirby Dach was among the players featured on Nick Kypreos' latest trade board for Sportsnet.
"Dach has become an expendable player on the Habs' roster and someone they'd like to find a move for. Injuries have plagued his career, but he's still just 25 years old. What we're looking out for here is Dach to be included in a package as part of a bigger trade that brings Montreal back a notable player. His $3.6 million cap hit could help make the money work in such a trade," Kypreos wrote.
Seeing Dach being named a top trade candidate to watch is not surprising in the slightest. Questions about his future in Montreal have come up for a while now. Furthermore, with the 2019 third-overall pick being a pending unrestricted free agent, it would be understandable if they moved him.
Dach has appeared in 12 games this season for the Canadiens, where he has zero goals, three assists, and a minus-2 rating. Overall, he has had a very quiet start to the campaign. This is after he had eight goals and 15 points in 37 games for Montreal last season.
Ultimately, if the Canadiens do not view Dach as a long-term part of their plans, it would make sense for them to trade him. It will be interesting to see if they do just that from here.
