On Monday, the Montreal Canadiens and Crave held the media premiere of the second season of the hit show The Rebuild: Inside the Montreal Canadiens. While selected members of the media were treated to the first two episodes of the series, fans were able to watch an interesting extract on RDS’ Instagram account.

The sports network put up a 66 seconds video in which Jeff Gorton explained to the camera that the Canadiens decided to focus on Patrik Laine as a trade target last offseason while Kent Hughes explains that knowing what the player can do on the ice is one thing, but it’s also essential to see if they’ll be accepted in the room, which is why it’s necessary to get your captain’s input.

Nick Suzuki then explains that the GM called him the day before the trade and says he was all for it because Laine is a fantastic player and that he hoped the Canadiens could get him back to where he was performance-wise. We then hear from the man himself, who says that as soon as he heard Montreal was interested, he told everyone that was where he wanted to land.

This is just a small example of the kind of content you can expect from the second offering of the Rebuild. It will start streaming on Thursday, August 21, on Crave, and one new episode will be released every Thursday up to September 25th, by which time the pre-season will be well underway.

The show was initially supposed to have only five episodes, but according to France-Margaret Belanger, once it became clear that the team was headed for the playoffs, they decided to add another episode. The president of sports and entertainment of Groupe CH also mentioned that her favorite part of the season comes in the second episode when Martin St-Louis speaks to his players in the room, and that another interesting part is about Cole Caufield changing his number late in the summer following the tragic passing of Johnny Gaudreau and the implications it had for the team.

Season 2 of The Rebuild sounds like precisely what you need to put yourself in the mood for the upcoming season, and it’s not even 48 hours away now…
