The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they have acquired goalie Hunter Shepard and forward Jake Chiasson from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Riley Kidney.
The Canadiens acquiring Shepard is certainly interesting, as the Habs called up goalie Jacob Fowler earlier this week. Perhaps that could be an indicator that the Canadiens are plannig to keep Fowler on the NHL roster.
Shepard appeared in 15 AHL games with the Belleville Senators this season before this trade, where he had 6-7-2 record and a .885 save percentage. He also played in one game for Ottawa this campaign, where he allowed two goals on 12 shots.
As for Chiasson, the 6-foot-2 forward had one assist in 20 games for Belleville this season. He also played in 14 ECHL games with the Allen Americans, where he had two goals and eight points.
Kidney spent most of this season in the ECHL with the Trois-Rivieres Lions, where he had 11 goals and 33 points in 46 games. The 2021 second-round pick also played in six games for the Laval Rocket before this trade, where he had one assist and a plus-2 rating.
