While Vinzenz Rohrer hasn’t signed an ELC with the Montreal Canadiens yet, he is one of the organization’s prospects and is turning some heads at the World Championship.

After scoring Austria’s only goal in its 5-1 loss to Canada, Rohrer did even better in the Friday tilt against France, putting up a goal and an assist. He also scored on a penalty shot, but the goal was waived as the replay showed a double touch. Still, he was named the man of the match in the 5-2 triumph.

The win allows his country to remain in the running for a quarter-final spot.  The tournament's group stage is set to end on May 20, and as things stand, Austria is in sixth place in Group A with five games played. With five points, the Austrians have a four-point lead on France and a five-point lead over Slovenia, which has yet to win a single game.

Austria is set to play Slovenia on Sunday and Latvia on Tuesday, two games that are within their reach. Meanwhile, Slovakia, which holds fourth place in the group, is set to face Canada on Friday, Latvia on Sunday, and Finland on Tuesday.

Rohrer and Co. will need help from other teams to qualify, but it’s still possible. So far, the forward has four points in five games and has shown he’s not there to do some sightseeing. It will be interesting to see how he does in the next two games.

Marco Kasper leads the team in points with five in as many games, just one more than the Canadiens’ prospect. Rohrer has been the most productive member of the Habs’ organization so far. Emil Heineman only has a single assist for Sweden, while Mike Matheson has been held off the scoresheet in four games with Canada. Meanwhile, former Hab Sven Andrighetto leads the tournament in goals with six, just like Eeli Tolvanen.
