While Coldplay recently made headlines for exposing a couple that shouldn’t have been attending their concert together, in Montreal Canadiens fans’ minds, Coldplay will always be linked to the team’s entrance on the ice.
When the organization tried to change the song the players came out to a few seasons back, the Canadiens would have none of it and asked for the song to be brought back through veteran Joel Edmundson.
Last week, brothers Arber and Florian Xhekaj were pictured enjoying the band’s gig in Toronto; it’s easy to imagine they got goosebumps when the band performed what has essentially become the Canadiens’ anthem, and they weren’t the only ones.
One fan published a video of themselves at the concert, and as the band played “Fix You,” they screamed Michel Lacroix’s line: “Ladies and gentlemen, mesdames et messieurs, accueillons nos Canadiens!”
The innocuous video has made the rounds online and now has over 44,000 views, even though it’s not as juicy as the one exposing a reportedly cheating couple. That 18-second video is a reminder of just how passionate Canadiens fans can be. Even in the dog days of Summer, attending a concert, their mind still goes to hockey.
It’s understandable, I have seen more games that I can count since Coldplay’s hit became Montreal’s entrance song, and yet, it still gives me goosebumps every time, and I’m certain I’m not alone...
