It’s looking to be very possible for Canadiens’ forward Cole Caufield to be named to the Team USA 4 Nations Tournament Roster.

Back on July 4, NHL.com listed Caufield among the 13 forwards projected to comprise the USA depth chart. The attacker is assumed to play on the third line with Vincent Trocheck and Jake Guentzel.

Caufield is a proven goal-scorer. Last season with Montreal, he tallied 28 goals and 65 points in 82 games. Although his goals per game rate decreased from the prior season—26 goals in 46 games—the young forward developed important chemistry with first-line teammates Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovský. He is poised to have a more impactful season under the coaching guise of Martin St. Louis.

Caufield has represented Team USA in years past. Most recently, he dawned red, white and blue for the 2024 Men’s World Championship. He won Bronze in 2019 at the Men’s Under-18 World Championship, Silver in 2018, and played in the World Junior Championship in 2020 claiming gold with his teammates. In 19 games for the Americans across those years, he has racked up 19 goals and 26 points.

Thus far, Caufield is the sole Canadiens player projected to participate in the tournament. Suzuki registered 33 goals and 77 points in 82 games last season, garnering an All-Star Game selection. Despite this, Suzuki has not been listed as a projected participant on Canada’s roster. It may have helped his case had he accepted the Team Canada invite at the World Championship. If he felt he needed the time off, it was in the Canadiens better interest that he didn't take part.

The 2025 4 Nations Facer-Off is set for February 2025, meaning other Habs have ample time to prove they belong.
