While NHL free agency started just under one month ago, former Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine is still a UFA. This comes after he played in just five games for Montreal last season, where he recorded one assist. 

Although Laine has not been signed yet this summer, that has the potential to change. This remains the case whether he lands a contract for the season or needs to settle for a professional tryout (PTO) agreement.

Now, the former Canadiens sniper is being predicted to sign out west. 

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Kristopher Knox predicted that Laine will end up signing with the Los Angeles Kings. 

"As they continue to retool their roster, the Los Angeles Kings could be an option. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period previously reported that the Kings had interest in Laine before the trade deadline," Knox wrote. "Prediction: Laine signs with Los Angeles."

With the Kings needing more offense, it would make sense if they circled back on Laine. This is especially so when noting that he could likely be had a cheap price at this stage in the off-season. 

If the King signed Laine, he would have the potential to be a strong addition to their top nine and power play. Due to this, it would be understandable if the Kings tried to sign him.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what happens with Laine this off-season from here. In 57 games over two seasons in Montreal, he recorded 20 goals, 14 assists, and 34 points.
