This former Canadiens defenseman has been placed on waivers.
A former Montreal Canadiens defenseman is among the latest NHL players to be placed on waivers.
This is because former Canadiens blueliner Justin Barron has been placed on waivers by the Nashville Predators.
Barron being placed on waivers comes after he recorded nine assists, 37 hits, 60 blocks, and a minus-1 rating in 52 games with the Predators during this past season.
The Canadiens traded Barron to the Predators during the 2024-25 season in exchange for defenseman Alexandre Carrier. Clearly, this trade has been a win for Montreal, as Carrier has been a strong part of their blueline since his arrival.
Barron spent four seasons with the Canadiens from 2021-22 to 2024-25. In 109 games with the Original Six club over that span, the 6-foot-2 defenseman recorded 13 goals, 18 assists, 31 points, 121 blocks, 131 hits, and a minus-11 rating.
It will now be interesting to see if another team ends up claiming Barron off of waivers. The former Canadiens blueliner has a $1.575 million cap hit for the 2026-27 season and is a pending restricted free agent.
