This former Canadiens forward is still a free agent.

Although we are now in the later stages of August, there are still a good amount of free agents still looking for their new homes.

Among the unrestricted free agents left is former Montreal Canadiens forward Evgenii Dadonov.

Dadonov still being a free agent comes after he had a tough 2025-26 season with the New Jersey Devils. In 24 games with the Metropolitan Division club, he scored just one goal. He was also placed on waivers by New Jersey in March.

Given how last season went for Dadonov, it is not too surprising to see him still be unsigned at this point in the summer.

Dadonov did have a solid season with the Dallas Stars in 2024-25, though. In 80 games with the Dallas Stars that campaign, he posted 20 goals, 20 assists, and 40 points.

Dadonov appeared in 50 games for the Canadiens during the 2022-23 season, where he recorded four goals, 14 assists, and 18 points. His time with the Canadiens ended later that season when he was traded to the Stars in exchange for forward Denis Gurianov.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what happens with Dadonov from here. He has been connected to the KHL.
