This former Canadiens goalie has been placed on waivers.

A former Montreal Canadiens goalie is officially available for the taking.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Carolina Hurricanes have placed former Canadiens goalie Cayden Primeau on waivers.

With Primeau being placed on waivers, any interested teams can claim him. However, if he clears waivers unclaimed, Carolina will then be able to assign him to their AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.

Teams looking for goalie depth could consider taking a chance on Primeau. Yet, it would also be understandable if he clears waivers, as he has struggled to break out at the NHL level.

Primeau spent most of last season in the AHL with the Wolves. In 39 games with the AHL club, he posted a 21-11-7 record, a .916 save percentage, and a 2.41 goals-against average. He also played in three games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2025-26, posting a 2-1-0 record, an .838 save percentage, and a 4.30 goals-against average.

Primeau was selected by the Canadiens in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, 199th overall. In 55 games over six seasons with Montreal from 2019-20 to 2024-25, he had a 13-24-7 record, an .884 save percentage, and a 3.69 goals-against average.
