The Montreal Canadiens didn’t have a first-round pick at the last draft, thanks to the Noah Dobson trade, but their first pick in the second round was a first-round pick in their book. Nick Bobrov and Martin Lapointe seemed rather excited about Alexander Zharovsky, and they aren’t the only ones.
According to Sweden-based Habs Eyes On The Prize correspondent Patrik Bexell, the KHL Press release about its 4-on-4 tournament describes the Canadiens' latest first pick as “the best player in the MHL”.
The youngster dominated with Toplar Ufa last season in the MHL, scoring 50 points in just 45 games in his first season in the junior circuit. For a second year in a row, Canadiens fans will be keeping a close eye on highlights and news out of Russia.
While Zharivsky is still some time away from crossing over to this side of the pond, Ivan Demidov has shown everyone in town that a Russian prospect can be worth the wait. Speaking of the Canadiens’ rookie, he will not be taking part in tonight's LSHL match . nor will Nick Suzuki, Samuel Blais or Alexandre Carrier. The only Canadiens player who will be there on Monday night is Joshua Roy according to the lineups just released.
