Jared Davidson has gotten hot in his second AHL campaign. Last season, the center had 16 points in 38 games. That's not bad. It didn’t match his last season with the Seattle Thunderbirds when he had 82 points in 60 games, but that was his fifth WHL season.
Davidson has a team-leading 10 goals, tied with Joshua Roy. He is one goal off from last season. He’s hit 15 points in 17 games, and that was noticeable. At 22, he may be starting to hit that developmental sweet spot.
This prospect is loaded with confidence. According to InStat, he is shooting the puck 4.4 times per game. 50% of them are hitting the net, that’s a big deal. He has a hard wrist shot and when he gets that extra room on the power play, he’s a real scoring threat. His one-timer is accurate as well.
I like his passing; he gets from point A to B. Sometimes, it doesn’t look pretty, but that’s okay. Davidson knows where to go without the puck and getting into position is a big deal.
He’s getting 15:01 TOI but he has 20 PIMS already. I feel that number is a bit high. I’m sure one or two of them are good penalties.
If Davidson were to get to the NHL, I think he’s more of a wing. He’s at 45% on face-offs and in the AHL, that’s not good enough. On the wing, he can do more things offensively without that extra defensive responsibility.
He was a fifth-round pick in 2022, and so far, so good. The next few months will tell the story.
