Not many people would realize the legacy Martin St. Louis is building without digging deep into the Montreal Canadiens record book.

On Feb. 9, 2022, the Montreal Canadiens hired Martin St. Louis, a native of Laval, QC, as their head coach. He's been behind the bench for 201 games in two and a half seasons, compiling a 75-100-26 record, including back-to-back 30-win campaigns.

Although he has yet to guide his team into the Stanley Cup playoffs, St. Louis has already coached the 15th most games in Canadiens history, and after another 82 contests in 2024-25, he'll move into the top 10.

On his quest to reach 283 games, St. Louis will move past these names in the record book:

However, that's not the only milestone St. Louis can achieve in the upcoming season. With 75 victories on his resume, he needs another 25 to become the 14th head coach to record 100 wins.

Former head coaches that he'll pass on the way into the top 15 include:

Considering that the former Stanley Cup and Hart Trophy winner is under contract until the end of the 2026-27 season, there's a chance that St. Louis will move into the top 10 in wins with the cut-off belonging to Carbonneau at 124.

Because St. Louis is one of 13 Montreal coaches to make it through three seasons, he's inherited a rebuilding club that has compiled exactly 100 losses, which put him 9th all-time.

If the Canadiens lose 26 games this season, St. Louis will move to fifth place all-time. Ahead of him are some veteran bench bosses who had some legendary runs during their time with the organization, including:

As much as the media and the fans focus on players and their pursuit of milestones, coaches and their achievements can get lost in the shuffle of an 82-game season.

Even though St. Louis has yet to experience the playoffs as a head coach, he's been slowly and quietly building up an impressive career with one of the most iconic franchises in hockey.

With every win or defeat, St. Louis gets closer to reaching a new coaching milestone and passing some legendary names on his journey to bringing the Stanley Cup back to Montreal.
