Mike Matheson has been an important part of the Canadiens since coming over from the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for Jeff Petry and he's already put up 100 points with the Habs.

According to RDS, Mike Matheson is the second-fastest defenseman to score 100 points with the Montreal Canadiens. The Pointe-Claire native scored 100 points in 136 games with the Habs.

This is an impressive stat since only one defenseman got to 100 points with the Canadiens faster than him, Chris Chelios, who did it in 125 games. Who are the three other defensemen rounding up the top five in that category?

Guy Lapointe reached the century in 165 games, Shea Weber in 175, and P.K. Subban needed 187 games to accomplish the feat.

Matheson might sometimes have defensive lapses and commit turnovers, but he's an integral part of the Canadiens' offense. The most enthusiastic will ask how many games Lane Hutson will take to get there. He's already got six points in eight games. If he kept producing at the same rate, he'd have 100 points in 75 games. Settle down, though. The kid has enough pressure on him without banging that drum.
