The National Hockey League (NHL) announced on Friday that the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery will be held on Tuesday, May 7, inside their studios.
The 16 non-playoff teams are entered in the pot to win one of the two draws. A team can’t move higher than 10 spots based on their standings.
By virtue of their 28th place overall finish with 76 points, the Montreal Canadiens have 8.5 percent odds of winning the Draft Lottery for the first overall pick. Once the winner of the first draw is determined, the odds of the remaining teams will increase on a proportionate basis.
Last season, the Chicago Blackhawks won the draw and selected Connor Bedard, undisputedly ranked first on all draft projections.
The Canadiens won the draft lottery in 2022 that allowed them to retain the first overall pick after finishing 32nd overall. To add to the excitement, the event took place at the Bell Centre. While a good portion of experts and fanbase wanted the organization to choose Windsor Spitfire forward Shane Wright, Kent Hughes pronounced the name of Juraj Slafkovsky. The forward was greeted with mixed reactions inside the arena, but has gotten on the good side of the fanbase with his performance on the ice and his personality.
This year’s Draft Lottery will be televised on Sportsnet, TVA and ESPN at a time that will be announced over the next couple of days.
Below are the odds of all 16 non-playoff teams to win the first draw.
