Could the Canadiens make a push for Blue Jackets forward Kirill Marchenko?
The Montreal Canadiens should be on the hunt for some forward help this off-season. One of their needs is another high-impact forward in their top six, and they are now being connected to an interesting one on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Canadiens are one of the teams "curious" about Blue Jackets forward Kirill Marchenko.
When looking at Marchenko's recent seasons, it is not difficult to understand why the Canadiens reportedly have him on their radar. The 25-year-old forward would give the Canadiens' top six a major boost if acquired due to his high offensive skill.
In 76 games during this past season with the Blue Jackets, Marchenko recorded 27 goals, 40 assists, and 67 points. This was after he set career highs with 31 goals, 43 assists, and 74 points in 79 games for Columbus during the 2024-25 season. With numbers like these, there is no question that he would be a huge pickup for the Canadiens if acquired.
However, with Marchenko being in his mid-20s and having a bargain $3.85 million cap hit through next season, the Blue Jackets are going to expect a significant offer for them to even consider trading him. While this is the case, it would make sense if the Canadiens made a real push for him this summer.
