The Canadiens reportedly have Schiefele on their radar as they look to boost their center depth.
As the Montreal Canadiens continue to look for another top-six center, they are now being linked to Winnipeg Jets star Mark Scheifele.
In a recent article for Sportsnet, Nick Kypreos reported that the Canadiens have interest in Scheifele.
"The Canadiens are among the teams asking about Scheifele after failing on Larkin," Kypreos wrote. "They have their eye on him as the perfect 1-2 punch to support top line centre Nick Suzuki. It would, of course, be a hefty price that could include prospect Michael Hage, or 23-year-old NHLer Oliver Kapanen, among others (Kirby Dach is wrapped up in this too)."
While the Canadiens had some bad blood with Scheifele in the past, it is not too difficult to understand why they have him on their radar. It is no secret that they need another high-impact center, and landing Scheifele would provide them with just that.
Scheifele's stats from last season show just how impactful of player he can be. In 82 games during the 2025-26 season with the Jets, he posted 36 goals, 67 assists, and 103 points. With numbers like these, he would be a massive addition to Montreal's roster.
However, with Scheifele coming off such a good season and being a proven star center, it would cost the Canadiens a ton to have any chance of acquiring him. He is also 33 years old, so there could be some risk in trading a lot to land him for Montreal.
Scheifele would be more than a rental if brought in by the Canadiens, though. This is because he has an $8.5 million cap hit through the 2030-31 season.
