Montreal Canadiens prospect Logan Mailloux will be granted permission to play in the National Hockey League (NHL), according to a report by TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie.
Lavoie, citing multiple sources, reports that Mailloux has been advised that he will be permitted to play in the NHL once he earns a roster spot with the Canadiens.
In his recent media availability, Montreal general manager Kent Hughes said that Mailloux had met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman in July. At the time of the press conference, Hughes did not have any information to share.
At the Canadiens' development camp in July, Director of Player Development Rob Ramage called Mailloux "an eager and willing learner."
Ramage added, "He played 30 minutes a game and they were solid for the most part. His development is really coming. We’ll see what happens and he’s going to push for sure (at training camp.) That’s his goal. He’d like to be in Montreal. If it’s Laval, there’s nothing wrong with developing there, either."
Mailloux signed a three-year, entry-level contract just prior to the 2022-23 regular season, which was approved by the league. The defenseman went on to have an excellent season in the OHL, recording 25 goals and 53 points in 59 games with the London Knights. He added 24 points in 21 playoff games.
The Canadiens selected Mailloux 31st overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The 20-year-old defenseman will participate in the Montreal Canadiens training camp in September.
As a 17-year-old minor, Mailloux was fined in Sweden after being charged for offensive photography constituting an invasion of privacy and defamation.
