In a Sportsology.com exclusive, Matthew Blittner had a chance to talk to Team Canada goaltender, Sam Montembeault on the off day after the loss to Team USA. Being the third goalie isn’t an easy job mentally. You have to watch everything from the press box and not being able to react the way a player would on the bench is a change, he would rather be in the game or at the very least on the bench, but he’s still a part of the team.

“Just like a day like today, we go on the ice with the goalie coach I’ll face some shots and take a couple of reps,” Montembeault said. “Just stay active, see some pucks, and stay sharp in case something happens.”
Experiencing the games in Montreal was special.
“That was crazy. I was not even dressed and I was stressed,” Montembeault admitted. “We were up in the press box and just before the game heard the crowd say Ole’, Ole’. It was a special moment. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Bell Centre that loud. They went crazy after McDavid scored his goal and put us up 1-0. The U.S. played well and now we have to come back big in a must-win game.”
Montembeault did his best to keep his composure during the fights.
“It was crazy. I wasn’t expecting that. I can see the first fight but three in nine seconds? It was crazy. I couldn’t sit., Travis (Konecny) and Theodore, We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. It was crazy.”
“With everything that’s going on right now. And in Boston. I can’t imagine what it might look like in a Final,” Montembeault said confidently and as I write this they will indeed play Team USA again on Thursday. “This building can get crazy too. I’m really looking forward to that if we can make it there.”
Montembeault will be watching the Final but at least he has a shot to win a gold medal.
