The Montreal Canadiens will have a lot of targets in the 2025 NHL Draft. I thought I would point out some interesting ones and forward Jack Murtagh is one of them.
He’s versatile, he can play center or right and left wing. I’ve seen him play at all of those positions. I like him at both of the wing positions and he is a sneaky, good, two-way player. Murtagh had 20 goals and 26 assists in 47 games. The New York native, was third on the NTDP team in scoring. That was a solid season for him.
As far as development goes, he is headed to Boston University. Nobody has ever complained about players honing their skills there before they turned professional and the Canadiens would be fine with that as well. It’s still a top hockey program.
According to InStat, he had 27% defensive zone starts. That’s very good. 65% of his shots were on net. Murtagh will take a lot of shots. He won 42% of his puck battles and considering the NTDP plays against college teams, that’s a very solid number. For a forward to average over 17 minutes is again a positive. If you add a pro wrist shot, and you have a good package here with some future NHL certainty.
I’m not predicting where he might fall in the draft but rest assured the Canadiens will have a chance to grab him. Between his versatility and his scoring potential, he is the kind of player that you can make room for in the future.
