Back in 2013, RDS showed a documentary series about the Montreal Canadiens which followed the team and gave fans an inside look into the most storied franchise in hockey. It was popular with die-hard fans and was dearly missed when the plug was pulled on the show.
Those fans can now rejoice because as announced months ago, a new eight-part docuseries about the team will land on Crave tomorrow. Aptly titled The Rebuild: Inside the Montreal Canadiens, it will give fans a better understanding into what goes into the rebuild of a professional sports team.
For a long-time, the media believed Montreal fans would never embrace a rebuild and wanted their team to compete every year even if it meant being in the middle of the pack forever. However, when Geoff Molson ushered a new era by cleaning house in late 2021 he put in place a brand new hockey operations department and put it in the capable hands of Jeff Gorton who had been one of the architects of the New York Rangers rebuild.

Three years later, the Canadiens look like they are well on their way toward contending again. Gone are the day of praying for Carey Price making miracles, the organization is now spreading the wealth around on the team. Money is now being invested up front and the youngsters signed long-term have been with team friendly cap hits.

GM Kent Hughes has also started designing a salary structure on the blueline, making Kaiden Guhle part of his core and taking more time to evaluate if Arber Xhekaj and Justin Barron should be part of it as well.
It has been fascinating to see the moves pulled over the last three years, acquiring exciting young players, drafting highly skilled and talented prospect thanks to finishing so low in the ranking and now, as it's all starting to come together, we'll be allowed to have a look at how those decisions were made.
Of course, we'll also see how the players are feeling about it all and how things are going behind the dressing room's doors and it's all starting tomorrow.
