Today, we launch the Montreal Canadiens team site on The Hockey News.
It's an exciting time for us, but should be equally exciting for you too. As a fan of the most storied franchise in NHL history, the Montreal Canadiens team site on The Hockey News will be your one stop for all the Habs coverage that you need.
You'll find news, analysis and opinion from a wide variety of perspectives. During the season our Game Day coverage will include previews, matchups, lineups and complete recaps of every Canadiens game. We will prepare prospect reports and have reporters on site to provide coverage for the Laval Rocket of the AHL.
We will also give you access to our popular multimedia content. More about that later.
First, we should answer the question, how did we get here?
In 2008, I took what-was-planned as a brief 'detour' from my career in academia. Social media was in its infancy so I took the opportunity to use the emerging technology to fill a void in the English coverage of the Montreal Canadiens.
From scratch, and with the help of several talented collaborators, I built Rocket Sports and its websites into a successful fully-independent media company that carved out an important niche in the coverage of Montreal hockey for 15 years. We produced a professional product, developed close connections in the hockey community and garnered credibility.
We were early adopters of social media and organically built a very enthusiastic fan following from around the world. Habs fans are everywhere!
Since our first steps into the world of podcasting, we have produced more than 800 podcast episodes. Currently, there is The Press Zone, a podcast focused on Habs prospects, and the Canadiens Connection, your inside link to the Montreal Canadiens. And we create a popular weekly YouTube hockey show!
We have written tens of thousands of articles, visited arenas all over this continent and met countless numbers of incredible people.
And that's when The Hockey News came knocking.
At that moment, I was instantly transformed to my childhood, growing up in Northern Ontario. My favorite hockey memories included playing road hockey under the street lamp, getting on the ice at the Delaney arena, and of course, leafing through second-hand copies of The Hockey News. My grandfather would pick up several slightly used editions of THN, in newspaper form, at the barber shop for me.
Yes, this seemed right. I would be honored to work with the fine folks at The Hockey News.
So, with renewed vigor and youthful inspiration, myself and my Rocket Sports colleagues will embrace this opportunity, continuing to be the storytellers about the Montreal Canadiens that you have come to trust.
We welcome our loyal readers and listeners to join us for this next chapter of the journey here at The Hockey News and we look forward to new connections that we will make while covering the best sport in the world.
