This Canadiens prospect should be watched closely next season.
The Montreal Canadiens have many promising prospects in their system. One of them is defenseman Adam Engstrom, as the 22-year-old has been continuing to trend in the right direction with his development.
After posting five goals and 27 points in 66 games during his first season with the Laval Rocket in 2024-25, he posted 10 goals and 34 points in just 45 games with the AHL club last season. The 2022 third-round pick also appeared in his first 15 career NHL games this past season with the Habs, where he recorded an assist and a plus-2 rating. With this, it was undoubtedly a successful year for the 6-foot-2 defenseman.
Given how well Engstrom played last season, there is no question that he is a prospect to watch during the 2026-27 season. If he continues to improve his all-around game, it should open the door for him to receive more opportunities on the Canadiens' roster next season.
There is a lot to like about Engstrom's game. The potential for him to emerge as a nice part of the Canadiens' blueline in the future is there. Let's see if the 23-year-old can take another big step forward with his game next season from here.
