The Montreal Canadiens took another big step in the right direction during the 2026-27 season. Juraj Slafkovsky was undoubtedly one of the major reasons behind it, as the 22-year-old forward hit a new level in a major way for the Habs. 

In 82 games last season with the Canadiens, Slafkovsky set new career highs with 30 goals, 43 assists, and 73 points. With numbers like these, he cemented himself as a legitimate first-line winger for the Habs.

Yet, as well as Slafkovsky played last season, it is certainly fair to wonder if he has not hit his ceiling yet. The potential for him to take his game to another level could still be there. 

Slafkovsky is just 22 years old, so he still has plenty of time to develop his game further. When looking at how much of a step forward he took last season, it would not be particularly surprising if his offensive totals jumped up again in 2026-27.

If Slafkovsky can take that next step and become a point-per-game player, it would be huge for a Canadiens club that is entering its contention window. It is also clear that the 2022 first-overall pick has formed amazing chemistry with Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki, so don't be surprised if he just keeps getting better.
