

Earlier today, the Montreal Canadiens announced the signings of two players as NHL free agency opens. Forward Philippe Maillet and defensman Brady Keeper were each signed to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2023-24 season.
30-year-old Maillet, born in Lachenaie, QC, returns to North America after spending two seasons in the KHL playing for Metallurg Magnitogorsk, posting 39 points and 53 points in the past two seasons. The undrafted 5-foot-10, 185-pound center is no stranger to the AHL, having scored 59 goals and adding 10 assists in 217 games played for the Ontario Reign and Hershey Bears. He has played two games in the NHL, for the Washington Capitals.

Keeper, also undrafted, is a right-shot defenseman measures 6-foot-2 and weighs 196 pounds. The 27-year-old from Cross Lake, MB spent two years in the NCAA playing for the University of Maine from 2017-19 before joining the Florida Panthers organization. He boasts a record of nine goals and 18 assists in 107 games played in the AHL, appearing with the Springfield Thunderbirds, Syracuse Crunch, and most recently, the Abbotsford Canucks.
