The Laval Rocket came back home on Sunday with no points after suffering two losses on the road over the weekend.
On Friday, the Rochester Americans (Buffalo Sabres) broke a 3-3 tie in the second period by scoring three consecutive times and headed to 7-4 win.
"They beat us on special teams with two power play goals and one shorthanded. We had chances but we have to try to produce more. We are learning with our young players right now and it's not easy to pick up wins. We need to play better defensively if we want to start winning," said Jean-Francois Houle evaluating the night.
On Saturday, the Syracuse Crunch (Tampa Bay Lightning) took an early 2-0 lead and ended up scoring five times on 28 shots in a 5-0 shutout victory. The Crunch scored twice on the power play, while the Rocket failed to convert on their five opportunities.
"It was difficult for us tonight. Syracuse was waiting for us and played a good game. They won the board battles and credit to them for playing a good game but on our side we need to put out a better effort," said the coach.
The Rocket are now last place in the American Hockey League's (AHL) standings with one win in seven matches. The Canadiens AHL affiliate has allowed 37 goals this season, most in the entire league.
"We need to find combinations that connect, we have to play better defensively. Once again too many turnovers and we have a lot of things to adjust. It's going to be intense practices next week," noted Houle.
The Rocket are back at Place Bell and will resume practice on Monday morning in preparation for three home games starting on Wednesday against the Utica Comets. The Toronto Marlies visit Laval for a pair of games starting on Friday.
