Joshua Roy and Logan Mailloux are two of the top prospects in an already deep prospect pool. The Laval Rocket have a good team, they are three games behind the Rochester Americans in the North Division. A portion of their success can be attributed to right wing Joshua Roy and defenseman Logan Mailloux - - both have been named to the North Division AHL All-Star squad. The game is on February 2nd and 3rd.
All 32 teams are represented by at least one player and Laval has two. Roy has 13 goals and 12 assists in 28 games. He is leading the Rocket in scoring and he’s working his way back up to the Canadiens possibly later this season. This is a nice shot in the arm and it has to make him feel good that his game is on track. The nice part about this game is it’s in Palm Desert, California. That’s the home of the Coachella Valley Firebirds. This is Roy’s first time being named to the AHL All-Star team.
Mailloux, a talented offensive defenseman, has five goals and 11 assists in 27 games. The 21-year-old blueliner was selected to last year’s game so this is two consecutive appearances for him and considering his age that’s quite an accomplishment.
Mailloux needs this full season in the AHL and possibly next before the Canadiens can see if he can stick in the NHL. As the team gets better they can afford to let a few players overmarinate. Organizations like the Washington Capitals do it and you can see their results and it would be smart for Montreal to do the same.
