Owen Beck got some more NHL experience.

Owen Beck had a two-game stint with the Montreal Canadiens. He got paid like an NHLer which is good for a young player. More importantly, he got into two games but he didn’t log much time.

It seems like Martin St. Louis has trust issues so Beck got 8:13 in an overtime win over the New York Rangers. That wasn’t much. But the team won and that’s the most important thing.

In the second game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, he played just 6:57, seven shits. He registered a hit but he watched most of the game from the bench. They won that game too. Hey, it’s better than not being called up.

In the end, this should fuel Beck to further work on his game. Presumably, St. Louis told him what he should work on, and maybe the next time the young center gets called up he will be truly ready. He’s still young and he’s developing so there’s no shame here. It happens.

Realistically, Beck is still 1-2 years away from the NHL depending on how he looks after the summer. Maybe he starts in Laval again next year and gets called up early. That might be the best-case scenario for him. He’s a hard worker so I expect this to give him some extra jump.
