Game Report

The Toronto Marlies bounced back from Friday's loss at Place Bell and shutout the Laval Rocket 5-0 on Saturday.

After scoring at least one power play goal in the first four games of the season, Laval has only been able to convert once in the last 26 chances in the last six games.

In the first period with Toronto leading 1-0, former Rocket Joseph Blandisi received a double minor for high sticking. During the four-minute power play, Laval held possession of the puck, took five shots but did not manage to get one past Denis Hildeby

Indiscipline creeped up into Laval's game with eight minor penalties, three of them in the third period. The good news is that the penalty kill unit killed six of Toronto's seven penalties.

Riley McKay tried firing up his teammates by dropping the gloves early in the third period when his team was trailing 2-0. McKay's win against Marshall Rifai woke up the building and on the next shift, Laval came close to cutting the deficit with several scoring chances. The momentum lasted 42 seconds as Nick Roberston added to Toronto's lead to make it 3-0. That goal deflated the home team and gave wings to the Marlies.

It was a difficult night for Mattias Norlinder on defence. He was on the ice for all five Marlies goals and mistakes led to the puck behind his goalie.

Laval ends their first 10-game sequence with two victories. A lot of work is needed to turn the boat around for the next stretch of 10 games.
