Canadiens are going to be players at the draft.

As we inch close to the big event, I will highlight players who could be a fit for Montreal. If they continue on this path they should be in line for a Top 10 pick. With the amount of progress the team has made at times this season, this could be one of the last times they pick this high so they have to make it count.

This draft isn’t as deep as previous drafts. Getting in the Top 10 is important so I would expect Kent Hughes to strip down the chassis a bit to ensure a decent spot in the draft. Nothing too drastic, but just enough to stay in that race. The lottery is supposed to stop teams from tanking but it doesn’t. The Blackhawks are a good example. Their team could be better with a few call-ups like Frank Nazar but they saw him earlier this year and sent him to Rockford to have a great chance at a Top 3 pick.

I’ll continue to highlight players right up until the draft. People can follow me on social media talking about it and I will be at the draft and a part of the NHL Netowrk Radio coverage as I have been for many years.

When you pick where the Canadiens are likely to pick it gives you a lot of options. Many times, they will get a shot at a falling player like Cole Caufield did, or they can try and move up using their additional picks if they feel they need to get a certain player. It’s a good spot to be in but outside of the top 10 isn’t tragic, it just limits the chances of getting a big impact player for the future.
