The revolving door of injuries for the Montreal Canadiens means prospects have to be ready to step up when called upon.
Rafael Harvey-Pinard is the latest Montreal player to find himself on injured reserve, forcing more AHL callups for the Canadiens. Defenseman Jayden Struble was an early callup for the Habs who turned out to be a permanent fixture on the blue line.
Montreal Canadiens forward Joshua RoyIn more recent weeks, fans have seen Brandon Gignac and Joshua Roy come in and out of the lineup. And with both Kaiden Guhle and Jordan Harris both recently leaving a game with injury, the likelihood of needing another defenseman seems to loom on the horizon.
To more fully appreciate why certain prospects are recalled over others, it's a good time to go through the exercise of reviewing AHL and NHL statistics for these young players. What have they done in Laval this year to warrant getting the call to the NHL? How have they performed since their arrival in Montreal? How long might their latest NHL stint last?
Plus, even though Guhle seems to have weathered his potential injury pretty well, the jury is still out on Harris' return to play. If another rearguard were needed from the Rocket, which one(s) would likely be selected - and why?
