Ever since their final game of the regular season, it's been particularly quiet in terms of news out of Laval. One of the biggest questions surrounding the Rocket when looking ahead to next season isn't necessarily which top prospects will be on the roster, or whether they will be a team worthy of a playoff push. Before any of that can be considered, the question of who will make up the coaching staff behind the bench will need to be answered.
Jean-Francois Houle and his assistant coaches just completed the final season of their three-year contracts. The head coach indicated during Laval's exit press conferences that he would like to remain with the Rocket, but that discussions had not yet commenced.
Perhaps the first indicator of what's to come for Montreal's AHL coaches popped up late last week when it was announced that assistant coach Kelly Buchberger had accepted a position with an Alberta Junior Hockey League has a new team's head coach and general manager.
Now it's a waiting game to see if other Laval coaches follow suit, or if any of them will, in fact, receive a contract extension.
