What a difference a week makes! Heading into the first games in February, the Laval Rocket had catapulted themselves solidly into a playoff position, sitting around third or fourth place in the North Division.
Laval Rocket goaltender Jakub DobesSeven days later, the Canadiens' AHL affiliate find themselves on the outside looking in after dropping two of three games last week and falling to sixth place in the division. That's just one spot outside of playoff qualification.
But don't despair just yet, Rocket fans! Only one point separates Laval from that coveted fifth position, currently held by the Belleville Senators. And the Toronto Marlies and Rochester Americans are tied for third and fourth position, just a measly two points ahead of the Rocket.
With the kickoff of a five-game road trip, the Rocket will face off against those third-place Marlies two times this weekend - Kasimir Kaskisuo's former club. Emotions will be running high, and with the strength and momentum of their opponent, coupled with losing two forwards to NHL recalls, Laval needs a focused and full effort in both contests this weekend. Otherwise, they risk slipping further in the standings and making the comeback hill an even steeper one to climb.
