The fifth-overall draft pick has had a start-and-stop first quarter of his season with EHC Kloten in Switzerland's National League.

Look around the Montreal Canadiens organization and you'll find plenty of prospects making headlines and highlight reels so far this season. Whether it's Joshua Roy, Jayden Struble, or Riley Kidney in the AHL, or Filip Mesar and Owen Beck in the OHL, Habs fans have a lot of reasons to get excited about the next generation of Canadiens players.

Sometimes it's easy to lose track of what's happening with prospects playing overseas, so this week we thought it would be a good idea to check in on newly-drafted defenseman David Reinbacher.

After getting cut from training camp and sent back to the Swiss National League (NL) in September, which was the right choice in my humble opinion, the rearguard hasn't had smooth sailing since setting down in Switzerland.

Between an injury that kept Reinbacher out of the lineup for almost a month and a Kloten team struggling to find themselves in the win column on most nights, it's not been an easy go of things for the young defenseman.

It's obviously too early to panic or second-guess his ceiling or eventual NHL potential, but there are things to keep an eye on moving forward this season. With the hopes that another year in the NL would prime Reinbacher to come back even better prepared to contend for a roster spot at the Canadiens' 2024 training camp, fingers are crossed that the Austrian can soon gain some positive momentum.
