On this week's Canadiens Connection podcast, we take a comprehensive look at the events surrounding the 2023 Draft, including a significant trade with the Colorado Avalanche, nine prospects added to the prospect pool and ending with the trade of a veteran defenseman.
Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes had a prime opportunity to advance the rebuild of the organization, coming into draft week with 11 picks in the 2023 NHL Draft. It is a draft that many analysts have described as containing the best top-10 prospects in a decade, and perhaps one of the best top-40 prospects ever. It was also a draft that was laden with dynamic, offensively-talented forwards.
Montreal selected defenseman David Reinbacher with the fifth overall pick which was greeted with a mixed response for Habs fans who are desperate for a superstar, particularly after enduring 30 years since the last Stanley Cup.
