In a matter of about 25 minutes, Canadiens GM Kent Hughes covered a number of topics with the Montreal media earlier this week, with no real surprises unearthed. But his mid-season media update did provide some insight into a few key areas that give a bit of perspective on the what the path forward might look like.

Sure, the subject of points production came up, both in terms of the Cole Caufield-Nick Suzuki duo and the potential to pursue a point-per-game player. What I found more interesting, however, were Hughes' comments on the ever-persisting three-goaltender rotation, whether he made promises to Sean Monahan to send him to a contending team at the trade deadline, and the performance of the AHL coaching staff and development team.
In addition, Hughes addressed concerns regarding the number of young defenseman currently stocked in the organization's prospect cupboards, as well as his thoughts on what he expected of the team at this point in the season versus what they've actually done.
Some of his answers could be expected, sometimes his choice of words was certainly worth noting, and, on occasion, what he didn't say spoke volumes. On this week's episode of Habs Hockey Report, I focused on the topics listed above to provide some analysis and commentary on what was presented.
