The Laval Rocket opened the season on home ice, hosting the Abbotsford Canucks on Friday night and Saturday afternoon at Place Bell. The Canadiens' AHL affiliate lost both games. They'll look to get their first win of this season in one of this week's three games on the schedule against two North Division rivals: the Rochester Americans, and the Belleville Senators.
This week, I'm proud to bring you a link to my premiere episode of "Rocket Hockey Report," a weekly YouTube show, produced by Rocket Sports Media, detailing how Laval performed over the weekend, including analysis, information on the prospects, statistics, exclusive interviews, and a preview of the team's week ahead!
While starting the season 0-2 might have felt like a letdown for fans, there were plenty of positive things to take from both games played. Joshua Roy scored his first professional goal. Joel Armia made his Rocket debut, and went down in the history books for scoring their first goal of the season. Logan Mailloux showed his loyalty when he dropped the gloves in defense of a fellow teammate was upended in one of the corners.
Roy certainly garnered a lot of attention, leading the team with four points after the weekend, but it was a defenseman who won my "Standout Star" of the week. Can you guess who it is?
