Setting up the next stage of the Habs' rebuild gives Kent Hughes plenty of reasons to make multiple moves on or before March 8th.

It's crunch time for general managers around the league as the final week of action prior to the March 8th NHL trade deadline arrives. Kent Hughes has made one move already, moving Sean Monahan to Winnipeg, but many expect more trades to come from Montreal.

In fact, by this time last year, the Habs' general manager had made his sole "key" trade of the season, so it's understandable that onlookers are on the edge of their seating waiting for his next move. We've even begun to hear some players, like David Savard, making their case in media availabilities to remain in Montreal and not be traded.

So which players on the Canadiens' roster could potentially be used as trade chips? And what complications might Hughes run into while negotiating with other teams?

It's no secret there are veteran players on this roster carrying way too much term, salary, or both. But with a team that's still struggling offensively, particularly in secondary scoring, league shoppers might need some added incentive to find Montreal players appealing in the market.

On this week's episode of Habs Hockey Report, I offer up four potential players who I believe could, or should, be traded in the next week: one forward, one goaltender, and two defensemen. Plus, I break down the logistics behind one area which might require Hughes to get a bit creative, or make some tough decisions, in the course of his trade negotiations this year.
