Nick Foligno had a two goal game for the Blackhawks, but it was Filip Forsberg who sealed the win for the Predators in the shootout.

The Nashville Predators traveled to Chicago Tuesday night to take on the 7-16 Chicago Blackhawks. The Predators made a few adjustments to the lineup, once again starting eleven forwards and seven defensemen with Cole Smith out of the lineup due to illness. Juuse Saros got the start in net once again after a strong performance against the Buffalo Sabres Sunday evening.

Connor Bedard entered tonight's game as the leader for Chicago in points and goals and leading the league in rookie points as well. The Blackhawks were without Taylor Hall who is out for the season and Andreas Athanasiou who is on IR. Arvid Soderblom got the start in net for Chicago.
Nashville kicked off the game with a flurry of offensive chances but the shots went high or wide of the net early. It was Nick Foligno who scored the first goal of the game hitting Saros with the puck and watching it roll up and over the goaltender to give Chicago the lead at 5:57.

The goal gave Chicago a burst of momentum and the Predators struggled with clean execution for a stretch. Nashville put a handful of shots on goal but only a few were quality chances. The period ended with the Predators leading 11-6 in shots on goal but the Blackhawks leading 1-0.
The second period started with the teams exchanging two-on-one chances but neither being able to capitalize on the opportunity. Luke Evangelista got the Predators on the board at 2:11 cleaning up a rebound off of Tyson Barrie's shot. Chicago responded with two quick shots on net to test Saros but Saros made the saves. Less than half a minute after Evangelista scored, Mark Jankowski found the back of the net cleaning up a Colton Sissons rebound off the pad of Soderblom to give Nashville their first lead of the game.
It was a short lived lead for the Predators as Jason Dickinson responded with a shot from the left circle that scored blocker side on Saros at 3:09 to tie the game. Then at 5:21 Nick Foligno cleaned up a rebound in the slot, giving Foligno his second goal of the game and the Blackhawks the lead once again.
At 9:27 the first penalty of the game was assessed to Phil Tomasino for hooking, but the Predators penalty kill managed the two minutes effectively. Just a few minutes later the door of the Blackhawks' box opened and Jarred Tinordi sat for tripping Luke Evangelista. Nashville's first power play unit went to work, and Ryan O'Reilly evened the game back up by scooping up the loose puck and sending it backhand past Soderblom.
The Predators' power play had one more chance as the period wound down after Lukas Reichel hooked Jeremy Lauzon, but Nashville couldn't capitalize on the man advantage. The teams headed into the second intermission with the score tied 3-3.

Juuse Saros was tested early in the third period in a net front flurry and was helped by Roman Josi who reached back and cleared a puck that had gotten behind Saros in the crease. After getting tangled up with former Predator Jarred Tinordi and falling to the ice, Juuso Pärssinen hobbled off the ice but was able to return to the game.
Chicago outshot Nashville 6-0 before the Predators finally got a shot on net nearly twelve minutes into the period. The top line generated two quality chances on back to back shifts but Soderblom was able to make the saves. Saros also came up with a big save against Taylor Raddysh one on one.
At 14:52 Filip Forsberg headed to the penalty box for a hold. The Blackhawks power play threatened to break the tie, but the Predators' penalty kill survived the two minutes. The two teams battled back and forth as time wound down, but regulation ended with a 3-3 tie.
In overtime each team had chances but couldn't finish, and the game went to a shootout. Gus Nyquist and Connor Bedard each made their shots in round one. Ryan O'Reilly scored on his attempt, but Saros made the save on Tyler Johnson in the second round. Filip Forsberg won the game for Nashville with his shootout goal.
