Nashville Predators "Owe One To" Visiting Calgary Flames

The Nashville Predators didn't have much time to savor their last minute win over the Colorado Avalanche Monday night. On the calendar and on their minds is their game against the Calgary Flames. at home tonight.

The Predators played the Flames on November 7 and lost 4-2. The Predators were up 2-0 after the first period at the Saddledome, but four unanswered goals revealed weaknesses and inconsistencies in Nashville's play and the Predators haven't forgotten. That Flames loss kicked off a four game losing skid that had Nashville reeling for a week.

"We've got another big test against Calgary who we all owe one to," Gus Nyquist said after Monday's win over the Avalanche. "We've got to be ready to go right away on Wednesday."

In their last two games — wins over Chicago and Colorado — the Predators have focused on game management and trusting the process. The more measured approach in the lows of a game seem to be working, and Nashville will need to continue to stick to their game plan against a 7-8-3 Flames team.

The Flames head to Nashville after a 4-3 overtime win in Seattle in which Rasmus Andersson scored the overtime winner and recorded two assists in his first multi-point game of the year. Dan Vladar got the start in net against Seattle, so Nashville is likely to see Jacob Markstrom tonight in net.

Nashville will need to do a lot of things better against the Flames than they did on November 7. The Predators hunted pucks against the Colorado Avalanche, and they will need that relentless puck pursuit to interrupt a Calgary Flames team that can catch their opponents off guard with a quick transition game.

Nashville's power play has been able to set up in the offensive zone often enough, but the team only has three power play goals in their 21 chances since last playing the Flames. While Calgary's power play sits at 26th in the league, there is no reason for Nashville's penalty kill to give the Flames any chances on the man advantage tonight. The Predators will need to win the special teams battle.

The Predators will be without center Cody Glass who was injured late in the game against the Avalanche and is on IR with an upper body injury. He is listed as week-to-week as is Tommy Novak, one of Nashville's most creative offensive weapons. The Predators are going to have to do a bit of line shuffling and hope the players can pick up quick chemistry with new line mates.

The Predators welcome the Flames to Bridgestone Arena tonight for an 8:00 pm CT puck drop.
