The Nashville Predators have recalled goaltender Yaroslav Askarov from the Milwaukee Admirals. Back up goaltender Kevin Lankinen is listed as day-to-day with illness.
Askarov joined the Predators at morning skate ahead of tonight's game against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 21-year-old Russian net minder has played fifteen games with the Milwaukee Admirals and has an 8-6-1 record and .908 save percentage in his 2023-2024 season. He has won four of his last five starts for the Admirals.
The Admirals recalled goaltender Gustav Grigals from the Atlanta Gladiators today as well. Milwaukee hosts the Chicago Wolves tonight.
Askarov made his NHL debut last season on January 12, 2023 against the Montreal Canadiens. The Predators lost that game and Askarov earned a .886 save percentage in his one and only NHL game so far. He is not expected to start tonight against the Hurricanes.
The Predators faced Carolina on December 12 and won 6-5 in overtime. Kevin Lankinen got the start in net for the Preds in that game. Juuse Saros will likely get the start in net tonight with Askarov backing him up. Saros has won seven of his last ten starts, but the team is coming off of a tough loss to the Dallas Stars just before the holiday break.
The Predators take on the Hurricanes tonight at Bridgestone Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm CT.
