With the Nashville Predators not holding a playoff spot at the trade deadline, they naturally sold off some pieces. One of the players the Predators dealt was forward Mark Jankowski, as the 30-year-old was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick.
Jankowski's name wasn't really floating around the rumor mill leading up to the deadline, so the move was a bit of a surprising one. This is especially so when noting that he has another year left on his deal after this one.
The change of scenery is undoubtedly benefitting Jankowski so far, as he has been excellent during the early stages of his Hurricanes tenure. In his first seven games with the Metropolitan Division club, the 2012 first-round pick has six goals to go along with a plus-5 rating. This includes scoring two goals in his last two games and four in his previous four contests.
Before being traded to the Hurricanes, Jankowski had four goals and nine points in 41 games with the Predators. He is not necessarily known as being a scorer, but he has been just that for the Canes early on. It will be intriguing to see how he builds on his hot streak from here.
