Leveraging a Stanley Cup-winning background in data science, the former Avalanche analyst joins Barry Trotz’s staff to sharpen Nashville's roster construction through advanced analytics and strategic scouting.

The Nashville Predators have made their fourth front office hiring in the last month, bringing on Dawson Sprigings as an Assistant to the General Manager.

He worked with Chris MacFarland in Colorado as an analyst from 2019 to 2022 before getting promoted to Director of Analytics, specifically an Associate Director of Analytics & Lead Data Scientist.

“We are pleased to announce Dawson has decided to join our hockey operations department as Assistant to the General Manager,” MacFarland said in a press release. “He will be a key staff addition and will help us in many areas, including, but not limited to, analytics, team-building strategy and some scouting work. I have first-hand knowledge of the type of work Dawson can produce, and he will be a valuable asset to the Predators.”

Data science has risen quickly in the NHL world, allowing teams to go beyond the ice and figure out what makes teams successful and eventually turn that into championships.

Sprigings was promoted to Director of Analytics following the Colorado Avalanche's 2022 Stanley Cup Championship.

Outside of front office work, Sprigings played hockey at Division III Wesleyan University.

He is the first carry-over hire made by MacFarland on this staff and the third made specifically by MacFarland, joining Rob Blake (executive vice president of hockey operations) and Jamie Langenbrunner (special assistant to the GM)
