Chris MacFarland taps one of hockey’s brightest young minds, poaching the rising executive from Pittsburgh to bolster a revamped front office focused on building a perennial contender.

Nashville Predators General Manager Chris MacFarland continues to add to his staff, hiring Vukie Mpofu as the new assistant general manager on Tuesday.

Mpofu has served as the Pittsburgh Penguins Director of Hockey Operations for the last three years. From 2020 to 2023, he was a team consultant and the Manager of Hockey Operations for Pittsburgh.

This will be the first time that the 30-year-old will be serving in this role.

“We are very pleased that Vukie has elected to join the Predators hockey operations staff as Assistant General Manager,” MacFarland said. “He is one of the great young minds in the game today, and we are confident he’ll be a great fit with the rest of our management team as we look to build a winning franchise in Nashville.

“We would also like to thank Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins organization for working with us in our pursuit of Vukie for this important role within our organization.”

Mpofu is the fourth hire that MacFarland has made to the front office staff since being hired on June 2nd.
