THN Mock Draft: Nashville Predators' Number 15 Pick

With the No. 15 overall pick in The Hockey News' Mock Draft, the Nashville Predators select … Colby Barlow, Owen Sound (OHL).

Why pick him? In Colby Barlow’s second season in the OHL, the 18 year old Canadian earned an impressive 1.34 points per game including 46 goals in 59 games played.
The 6’1” winger’s calling card is his shot. In the OHL’s coach’s poll he ranked first in the league for best shot, first for most dangerous in the goal area, and tied for 1st for hardest shot.
Barlow has a variety of skills when it comes to shooting. He can place a shot accurately from a distance and score in tight areas as well. Barlow has mature offensive anticipation and can shoot an accurate one timer from even a small pocket of space.
While primary known for his shot, Barlow is also a creative playmaker. He has a well rounded offensive game and is able to drive the offense.
Barlow's off ice skill set makes him all the more impressive. He is a leader, earning the "C" as a 17 year old. His coaches speak well of his work ethic and character, traits that will help him as he transitions to the next level in his career.

    Scouts say:

Barlow is considered one of the best players- if not the best player - to come out of the OHL this season. Some believe he may be one of the best shooters in the class.

"One of the best shooters in this class, Barlow’s release is lightning quick, and he can manipulate his blade so quickly to fool goaltenders," says Penalty Box Radio's Eric Dunay

    Other options:

If available, Nashville may look at Brayden Yager, Eduard Šalé, or Matthew Wood. While Nashville is committed to taking the best player available with their picks, defenseman Axel Sandin Pellikka could be a terrific future depth piece for the blue line.

What else is on the agenda?

The Predators outgoing GM David Poile and incoming GM Barry Trotz have talked to teams ahead of them in the draft, but if they are unable to tempt team in the picks seven to ten range they will be content to sit tight with pick 15 and selecting a player like Colby Barlow.
