Roland McKeown scores twice in the third period to tie the game, but a late power play goal gave the Texas Stars the win.
The Milwaukee Admirals returned to the ice at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena for game two of their division final series against the Texas Stars. On Friday, the Admirals defeated the Stars 2-1 to earn the first win of the series. Again tonight Yaroslav Askarov and Matthew Murray started in net for the Admirals and Stars respectively. Milwaukee was without Kiefer Sherwood in game two.
Anthony Angello headed to the box early for a boarding call at :31 giving the Stars their first power play opportunity. Milwaukee's penalty kill remained strong, and the teams returned to full strength. The Admirals got their chance on the man advantage at 4:25 but only generated one shot on goal in their two minutes.
The first score of the game came at 7:23 as Texas's Curtis McKenzie tapped the puck past Askarov to give the Stars the early lead.
The teams played four on four hockey for two minutes late in the first period as a tussle during a faceoff between Mark Jankowski and Rhett Gardner spilled over. Neither team was able to capitalize on the extra ice, and the teams entered the locker room with Texas up 1-0.
The Stars came out and struck quickly as defenseman Alexander Petrovic scored just :18 seconds into the middle period. The Admirals pushed back, generating chances but unable to get anything past Murray. At 11:14 Riley Barber headed to the box for hooking, and Marc Del Gaizo scored on the ensuing power play to get Milwaukee on the board.
Barber made his third trip to the sin bin late in the second period, but time expired before the Ads could capitalize. Texas headed into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead.
Milwaukee started the final period with time remaining on the Barber penalty, but the Stars' penalty kill thwarted the Admirals and the teams returned to five a side. A delay of game penalty by Ryan Shea at 8:24 gave Milwaukee another chance, but it was Texas who scored shorthanded at 9:13. The Admirals couldn't capitalize on the rest of the man advantage.
The Stars' 3-1 lead was erased by Roland McKeown who scored two goals in just over a minute to tie the game with less than five minutes to go.
At 17:23, Anthony Angello was called for a high stick, and the Stars scored on the power play just :07 later to regain the lead. An empty net goal made the final score 5-3.
The Admirals head to Texas for game three Wednesday night with the series tied up 1-1.
