After suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in March, the Devils were forced to finish the year without their star forward, Jack Hughes--and boy it showed. In the remaining 20 regular season games after his injury, the Devils went 9-11, before falling to the Hurricanes in round one.
In 62 games last season, Hughes led the team with 70 points and totalled a +12 rating, so entering this season, expectations were high once again.
So far, it's looking like he picked up right where he left off. He has six points in his last two games, including a hat trick against Toronto on Oct. 21. His hot start has helped the Devils find their groove once again, as they sit atop the Metropolitan division with a 5-1 record.
While it's only two weeks into the season, Hughes' strong play along with the Devils success shows promise for the rest of the year.
Don't be surprised if Hughes has a monster year, and the Devils do too.
