The New Jersey Devils acquired 25-year-old Cody Glass ahead of the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He made an immediate impact. The Devils have scored 11 goals since he joined the team, with Glass on the ice for six of them. Through three games with New Jersey, he has three points (one goal, two assists).
After a recent practice, The Hockey News sat with Glass for a mini Q&A. During the interview, he spoke about his love for the game, career trajectory, and more.
The Hockey News: Lisa Kudrow has publicly spoken about how it took a few years to settle into her Friends character, Phoebe Buffay. How long did it take you to get comfortable and understand what it takes to be an NHLer, day in and day out?
Cody Glass: I still don't know if I have got a grasp on it.
Especially being in a different locker room so many times. I feel like I am learning something new every time. It has been a whirlwind. I can't say that I have fully grasped it, but I think every year, it gets a little bit more comfortable.
THN: Is there a particular moment in your career that you would love to show to your younger self to say this is going to be you in the future?
Glass: I would say my first NHL goal. It is something you always dream of as a kid, and not a lot of people get to live it.
I (received) a backdoor pass from Max Pacioretty and scored on Martin Jones and the San Jose Sharks. The fact that I got to live it and be a part of scoring a goal for a new franchise was awesome.
Editor's Note: With a laugh, Daniel Sprong made it known that Cody's response was a cliche answer.
THN: Was there ever a moment in your career when you started to lose your love for the game?
Glass: I have.
It is a rocky road, man. It is hard. A lot of ups and downs, and you go through things in life. I think there's a certain point in time where you say, 'I don't know if it is worth it anymore.' In the back of your head, you're thinking my body hurts, and I am going through all these things, all that stuff.
Sometimes, you don't know if it's worth it anymore, but you always find it. You always find it again.
THN: What has hockey given you?
Glass: A lot of friendships, that's for sure!
I think it has helped me grow as a human being. Coming in at a young age (surrounded by) a bunch of adults has helped me grow on and off the ice. I am very grateful for that.
THN: Was there ever a moment in your life that you wanted to quit hockey?
Glass: Probably. I don't know what age, but yeah, that thought has crossed my mind.
Am I happy I'm still playing it? Yes, I am.
