    New Jersey announced their opening night roster ahead of Thursday night's home opener.

    NEWARK, N.J. -- The New Jersey Devils officially unveiled their 23-player opening night roster for the 2023-24 season. The club will carry 14 forwards, seven defensemen, and two goaltenders.

    Second-overall pick Simon Nemec has been assigned to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League, where he can continue to develop his game. Below are the players who made the opening night roster.

    Roster Breakdown

    Forwards: Nathan Bastian, Jesper Bratt, Erik Haula, Nico Hischier, Alexander Holtz, Jack Hughes, Curtis Lazar, Michael McLeod, Timo Meier, Dawson Mercer, Tomas Nosek, Ondrej Palat, Chris Tierney, Tyler Toffoli.

    Defensemen: Kevin Bahl, Dougie Hamilton, Luke Hughes, John Marino, Colin Miller, Jonas Siegenthaler, Brendan Smith.

    Goaltenders: Vitek Vanecek & Akira Schmid

    Injured Non-Roster List

    - Nolan Foote (upper-body)

    - Brian Halonen (lower-body)

    - Nico Daws (off-season hip labrum surgery)

    - Keith Kinkaid (upper-body)

    The Devils will open the season on Thursday, Oct 12, when they host the Detroit Red Wings at Prudential Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Hulu. Mike Monaco will do play-by-play alongside analyst Kevin Weekes. Emily Kaplan will serve as their rinkside reporter.
